Chemical peels are intended for use on very light acne scars; it works by removing the outermost layer of skin from the area in which it is applied, this reveals the ‘new’ skin underneath for a healthy glow, minus the scaring.
Because the chemicals can damage your eyes, lips, and ears you should always protect them from contact with the chemical. It is very important that you read and understand the instructions that are provided with the kit before you begin the process of applying the chemical.
There are three strengths or chemical peels they are mild, moderate, and severe. The mild treatment is the one generally recommend for use on light acne scars. The light treatment is the most common and it can be useful in the treatment of very light acne scaring. It is a diluted version of the moderate chemical and it will not remove as much skin because of this.
The moderate chemical solution is intended for acne scaring that would not be considered light or severe, but in between. The chemical sold in this type of kit is very strong, so strong in fact that is causes second degree burns. Because the burns are much more severe than the ones incurred through the use of the mild chemical, it will take much longer to heal.
Last, and most serious, is the severe chemical. It will produce second degree burns when applied to the skin and it is intended for use on only the most severe acne scars. This treatment is so strong in fact, that it and the moderate chemical should only be applied by a trained professional. I am not a medical professional, so I suggest you consult a dermatologist before you proceed with any of the advice given in this article.
