More than ever, this time has become the era of a never-ending health and beauty revolution because of numerous medical breakthroughs. One of these breakthroughs is the invention of chemical peels that are the secret weapons in treating aging skin for a younger you.
Many, if not all, of us want to preserve our youthful look and timeless beauty. We all know that as we grow old, we cannot help but have those wrinkles, fine lines, acne, mild face scars, sun damage, and other pigmentation disorders. These are normal phenomena in a man’s life, but not necessarily hopeless ones. In fact, we can do chemical peels to fight these things by decelerating their growth and appearance or by diminishing them completely.
Dr. Neil S. Sadick, a renowned dermatologist and clinical professor at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in North Carolina, explained the positive and negative effects of chemical peels. He began by defining it as a treatment composed of exfoliating substances applied to our damaged or aged skin to produce the peel-off effect. As soon as it peels, our skin will do the normal regeneration process, producing new and young skin to take place. Dermatologists applied it on a case-to-case basis, usually taking into consideration the severity of the damaged area. Below are some of the different types of chemical peels:
1. Superficial or lunchtime type – This is the most popular type because it has no downtime. It is effective in giving great results in fighting the signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, scars, and even acne. Those who are in their mid-20’s to 30’s are usually the best candidates for this treatment.
2. Use of Alpha Hydroxyl Acids – This is the latest version of the treatment because it uses AHA, beta, and polyhydroxy acids. Its target is acne reduction; it decreases sebum or oil that causes acne. The best candidates for this type of treatment are those individuals with dark skin.
