Best Acne Treatments
Being a long time sufferer of acne I understand how frustrating it is just to find a great acne treatment that is effective. There are countless acne products at the supermarket and drug store and each one of them advertises being the ‘best”. Then when you try the acne face wash they never seem to work. So when you do finally find a treatment for your acne that works you want to stick with it. The problem that many acne treatments have is that they bleach your clothes, towels, and linens.
The reason that many of the best acne treatments stain your stuff is that they contain a chemical called benzoyl peroxide. This chemical is a powerful oxidizer that is very effective at destroying the bacteria that cause acne and pimples. On top of that it’s safe for most everyone’s skin and won’t cause too much burning or skin irritation. Because of these two facts, it is the perfect ingredient for treating acne, however, benzoyl peroxide is an oxidizer that can attack the color containing molecules, altering their properties and thus altering their color.
To find the best acne treatments that won’t stain your sheets or towels, we’re going to have to get away from the over the counter acne treatments that contain benzoyl peroxide. If you’re taking prescribed acne medications, you’ll have to check to see if it contains benzoyl peroxide as an active ingredient. However, if you’ve been prescribed this medication, it’s probably best to consult your dermatologist prior to switching medications. If you’re concerned about your acne medications bleaching or staining your stuff, talk to your doctor or dermatologist about switching to a different medication. Usually they can help provide acne advice, no matter how severe. If your dermatologist suggest that you stick with the benzoyl peroxide, or if you don’t want to change acne facewash or lotion, there’s another option. You can purchase cheap towels and bed sheets that you can use in place of nice ones. This way if they get stained then there’s no problems. You can find cheap bed sheets and towels at places like WalMart, Salvation Army, or your local dollar store. Or I suppose you can keep using the bed sheets and towels you are already using if they are already ruined. Doesn’t matter if there’s a big stain or little stain at this point.
If you’ve decided to switch over to a non-staining acne treatment, you’ll want to check out the different face washes and creams that have salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a gentle organic acid that can help to exfoliate the skin. It’s more gentle on the skin than benzoyl peroxide and it’s a not a powerful oxidizer so it won’t stain your towels and pillow cases. However, because it’s not as aggressive in controlling acne bacteria, you’ll have to step up the face washes. A good rule of thumb is to wash your face in the morning when you get up and at night when you go to bed. A lot of these acne face and back washes can be used in when taking your shower. If you find that two washes aren’t enough, try to get an additional acne wash in somewhere in the middle of the day. The more often you wash up the more you’ll be taking the acne causing bacteria out. Just be careful not to wash up too much because it could end up drying out your face. If this occurs use a moisturizing lotion to add just a little bit of moisture to your face as too much might promote pore clogging.
While there are several natural acne treatments that are made from plants and plant extracts, these aren’t guaranteed to not stain your clothing or towels. Just remember that many natural dyes are made from plants and their extracts so be careful when using these natural treatments. If you do go with one of these natural acne products, make sure to experiment on a towel or pillowcase that you don’t mind getting stained.
