The three-step process for removal of the micro thin top layer of skin and unwanted facial hair is ideal for those with oily skin, sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, acne, bothersome facial hair, or large pores. Compared to standard chemical facial peels and microdermabrasion, dermaplaning offers a much milder exfoliation and requires no recovery time for redness or peeling. Makeup can be used immediately following the treatment.
Dermaplaning employs the same blade used in open heart surgery. While sharp enough to scrape away hair and dead skin, the blade gently avoids nicks and cuts. The sensation compares to running a credit card along one’s skin. This step promotes softer skin texture as well as removing unwanted hair. Either glycolic acid or a milk-derived lactic acid solution is then applied to draw oil from the pores to enhance exfoliation.
Cryogenic Therapy completes the treatment. Carbon dioxide is applied to the face in light, circular motions. The coolness provides immediate comfort and anti-inflammation, allowing the patient to resume normal activity at once. In addition, it helps pores to appear smaller. With the removal of the micro thin top layer of skin, sun damaged skin is no longer present and oil and blackheads are unblocked.
There is no pain involved.
An alternate method to dermaplaning is available to patients with active acne or extremely sensitive skin. Pure papaya enzyme gel can be applied to exfoliate and soften the skin.
In addition, the skin is more sensitive to sun damage following treatment. For this reason, it is recommended that all patients use sunscreen immediately afterwards.
