You may have heard of the term Dermaplaning as a buzz word in cosmetics & beauty salons, however, what is this new treatment & how effective is it? Dermaplaning is a non-invasive exfoliation of the skin which removes the surface dead cell layers, leaving a fresher skin that looks brighter and feels super soft to the touch.
What’s the difference between Dermaplaning, Epiblading, Skin Resurfacing, Epidermal Scraping & Dermaplane?
There’s no difference at all, the treatment is known by other various synonyms such as epiblading, dermaplane, epidermal scraping, epidermal levelling & skin resurfacing. They all produce the same end result which is to scrape a thin layer of skin which clears away dead skin cells.
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive & highly effective treatment which minimises the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars
The procedure is a simple & quick treatment, it’s performed using a sterile surgical instrument which removes a fine layer of dead cells (corneocytes), facial hair/peach fuzz (vellus hair) and sebum (skin oil) in pores.
A sterile, surgical blade is used to remove keratinized cells on the stratum corneum and fine vellus hair.
A sterile, surgical blade is held at a 45 degrees angle and is used to scrape the skin and remove keratinized cells on the stratum corneum and fine vellus hair. By doing so, skin rejuvenation is induced and therefore the connective tissues of the skin are exercised once performed. It’s recommended to be treated on a regular basis (recommended every 4-6 weeks).
What to expect from a Dermaplane Facial?
A Dermaplane Facial is highly effective in minimising the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles & acne scars while leaving the skin smooth, supple and vibrant. Dermaplaning increases cell turnover & is highly effective in minimising the appearance of fine lines, acne scarring & dark spots (pigmentation), leaving the skin smooth, supple and feeling fresh.
In a way, Dermaplaning is exfoliation, however, there are multiple ways to exfoliate skin including microdermabrasion & chemical peels. The equipment & sterile tools used to scrape the top layer of corneocytes are different from microdermabrasion & chemical peels.
Each system has its pro’s & cons, some are more effective in certain circumstances which come down to a case per case basis. We’ve put together some frequently asked questions below to help you better understand how our Dermaplaning & Epiblading works. For more in-depth information please contact us.
