Dermaplaning is truly one of Dr. Gerstman’s favorite types of exfoliation. The treatment utilizes a specially-designed tool to gently remove the topmost layers of skin leaving the skin supple and vibrant. It gives the skin a smoother appearance by removing dead skin cells in addition to the fine vellous facial hair (“peach fuzz”) that can trap excess dirt and oil and leave the complexion looking dull.
Most people notice marked improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin immediately after their first treatment, making it an excellent procedure to have prior to a special event.
Dermaplaning is also ideal for our pregnant and nursing clients as it is non-invasive and does not require the use of any chemicals.

Dermaplaning, one of our top surgeon’s favorite exfoliating techniques is a non-invasive treatment that can help you get rid of the unaesthetic “fuzzy face” look and other signs of aging. By gently exfoliating the superficial layer of the epidermis, the procedure doesn’t just eliminate skin imperfections, but also removes fine hairs on the face temporarily. Unlike other cosmetic procedures with similar results – chemical peeling or laser resurfacing – Dermaplaning is not as hard on the skin and can even be employed by pregnant women and nursing mothers.
Because it is non-invasive and performed by Dr. Gerstman herself, Dermaplaning is a risk-free cosmetic procedure.
Dr. Gerstman can perform Dermaplaning along with other non-invasive treatments, such as a chemical peel. In general, we recommend our clients to opt for peels that don’t just remove the upper layers of the skin, but that also contain antioxidants that rejuvenate the skin.
In order to get the best results possible, we recommend you undergo Dermaplaning once per month. Take note that this cosmetic treatment actually removes two to three weeks of dead skin cells.
This cosmetic treatment is especially designed to address and improve most skin problems in the facial area. Even though Dermaplaning can remove fine hairs from the face, it is not an efficient hair removal procedure.
In the event that you prefer to undergo Dermaplaning along with an exfoliating peel, then you should expect mild redness and peeling the next days following the treatment. If you feel pain or any type of discomfort during the recovery, then these issues can be addressed with OTC pain medication. It is also important to note that there is no downtime.
Everyone except patients with active acne can benefit from an Dermaplaning session. Dr. Gerstman will advise patients with acne to consider alternative exfoliating options because by removing fine hairs there is a risk that oils get trapped below the skin’s surface and hence, aggravate the symptoms of acne.
