A chemical peel is a skin treatment (done on the face typically) used to improve the appearance and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin on the outermost layers of your skin to be exfoliated. Sun exposure, acne or just getting older can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. If you want your skin to look smoother and younger, consider a chemical peel. This type of procedure is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. The regenerated skin is generally smoother and brighter resulting in a more youthful glow. Facial peels are a quick, relatively painless way to rejuvenate your skin even on your lunch hour!
Anyone who is looking to refresh and revitalize their complexion with a non-invasive procedure. Chemical peels may be of benefit to many age groups including teenagers with acne to more mature skin with fine lines and hyperpigmentation or sun damaged skin. It is important to note that X-fol exfoliative treatments do not remove deep wrinkles or scars, shrink pores, remove, improve, or worsen telangiectasia, tighten lax skin, or affect hair follicles or hair growth. Ideal candidates for the chemical peel procedure are individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their skin, have realistic expectations of their procedure, do not smoke and are committed to protecting their skin from sun exposure.
Chemical peeling is basically an accelerated form of exfoliation induced by the use of a chemical peeling agent. In fact, the term chemical peel is used synonymously with skin resurfacing, as chemical peeling induces the following changes in the skin: epidermal growth of the skin is stimulated and the epidermis thickens, the newer cells are more normal/healthy, and the resultant exfoliation can also open up blocked sebaceous glands. By exfoliating the outermost surface layers of the skin, it allows the newer, healthier skin cells underneath this layer to come to the surface quicker resulting in a healthier, fresher, renewed appearance to the face.
Precision Laser utilizes two different peels: Medique’s Skincare exfoliative chemical peel Treatment known as “X-FOL” as well as the AFA Clay Peel. The Medique X-Fol chemical peel line is a unique professional rejuvenating exfoliative treatment series combining four alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic, malic, and tartaric) plus two beta hydroxy acids (salicylic and citric). Medique’s X-Fol Skin Rejuvenation treatments can help repair sun damage, smooth out rough, discoloured skin, improve fine lines, help control acne problems and brighten drab skin. By combining four Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) plus two Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA), X-Fol Skin Rejuvenation can provide even exfoliation with less stinging and irritation than previously available. This peel is available in different strengths and each client’s individual needs for skin care are determined with a consultation/assessment.
AFAs are a unique technology in skincare based on amino acids that occur naturally and help retain moisture in your skin. AFAs are able to penetrate the outer skin layer and exfoliate, and hydrate to make your skin feel smoother and softer. The Clay Peel is a 2 step process that utilizes a clay earth-based mask first to help prepare the skin and draw out oils/impurities. Then the antioxidant peel is applied. Clients with rosacea or dry, sensitive skin may not be good candidates for this type of peel. It is formulated to address acne prone skin and sun-damaged areas on the face and chest or back. There is no recovery time and can be done at any time of the year. It is recommended to do a series of 4-6 treatments to achieve the best results for your skin.
