When a reader approached me to visit her Mom’s spa in Raleigh, I was both excited and curious. My marketing and advertising background have taught me a lot about creating authentic content, and although I understand that being a content creator online means you’ll likely need to collaborate with brands and companies, I always want our content to be meaningful and well, authentic. A few minutes into Josefina’s story, the owner of Evolve Skin Care spa, and I was convinced I had to go check it out. 
Josefina truly loves everything skin related, so much so she switched careers and became a certified esthetician back in the Dominican Republic. She had over a decade working with skin in the island and life and it’s funny ways brought her to the United States, where she has had to start this new business from zero. No big budget, no long list of friends or clients, but a lot of determination.
Evolve is located in Woodside, Raleigh, and although it is still modest in size – only two small rooms – you can easily see the love and dedication behind every detail. The warm decor and Josefina’s soft and knowledgeable voice will make anyone feel comfortable and at ease, which is something you should always feel when getting a facial or spa procedure.
Josefina performed a classic facial on me, and besides having tender and experienced hands, what surprised me the most her serious knowledge about skin. She made observations about mine I had never heard, and ones that I am convinced will change my skin for the better.
If the beautiful space and the easiness she moves in it won’t charm you enough, I am confident her personality and story will. As ‘common’ as it is to hear people starting from zero in the States after migrating from the island, it is still very refreshing to see it first hand. It was awesome to see a fellow Dominican woman that wasn’t willing to take no for an answer and who, even in the face of starting a brand new business in a foreign country, still deeply loves what she does.
I encourage you to pay them a visit and see it all for yourself. Evolve’s facial start at $50 dollars on your first visit to $80 dollars afterward. She also offers massages and other skin procedures as well as waxing. The place is thoroughly clean, and you can rest assured she and her team are well taken care of, which is something you cannot say for most affordable spa places in North Carolina.
Remember what we always say: The only way we’re going to do better as a community is if we support each other, and I certainly would love to see Evolve Skin Care succeed.
