So, What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive rejuvenation treatment that refinishes your skin, leaving it smoother than ever. A scalpel is used to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin and remove fine vellus hair, or peach fuzz. If you have had microdermabrasion treatments or chemical peels in the past, dermaplaning can do just as much for you! There’s no peeling involved, and you’re getting rid of hairs at the same time. Since this treatment eliminates dead skin cells and allows new ones to grow, products are able to penetrate deeper into the dermis. In non-technical terms, your makeup will go on much smoother since you won’t have that peach fuzz and dead skin in the way!

The Myths of Dermaplaning

“It’s going to hurt and make me break out.”

False—it actually is not normal to break out or have sensitive skin after the treatment. You can go on with your day after dermaplaning and apply makeup right away!

“My hair is going to grow back thicker and darker.”

Wrong! The peach fuzz on your face is not like the hair on the rest of your body. It is vellus hair, which does not change structure. If you didn’t have a mustache before dermaplaning, you won’t have one afterwards.

“Skin treatments like dermaplaning are too time-consuming.”

We know that upkeep can be challenging—not only with skin care, but with anything and everything! Dermaplaning is a treatment that is normally done every four to six weeks, but don’t worry—if you go longer than that before your next treatment, you will be just fine.

If you do wait longer between treatments, you may notice that your skin is not as smooth as it was before. But it’s important to remember there is no abnormal hair growth! The treatment itself takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes, making it easy to fit in your schedule.
