When we are young we spend most of our time trying to look older, and when were older we spend most of our time trying to look young. What is even more ironic is that we spend hundreds of dollars on skin care products and services, thinking they will make us look and feel beautiful, when in all honesty most skin care products contain harmful chemicals that coat our skin causing numerous defects and can even cause cancer. Scary isn’t it? Not to worry. I am going to help you save money, and cut out the chemicals in your skin care regiment by giving you tips on How to do a facial at home with ingredients from home.
Being a licensed cosmetologist I have learned many simple steps to complete a pampering facial within the walls of my own home. Most professionals will tell you that you will not get the same result at home as you would in a spa, and this is partially true, but I will help you get as close to the spa as possible! Lets get started…
1.) The set up
Before you begin you’re going to want to get everything in order so your facial can be as relaxing and rejuvenating as possible. Remember any pampering service is not just for the body, it is also for the soul. Those being said, try and complete this facial in a quiet environment, and give yourself enough time to complete it without interruptions. You will need to make sure you have all of the following implements ready….
Two large bowls of warm water (or you can just use the sink. It’s up to you)
2 facial sponges/cloths
A head band
Warm Towels (this can be done by simply running towels under hot water and keeping them in a covered pot until needed)
A timer
Product (Cleanser, Mask, Moisturizer, Toner, Oil)
Cotton rounds
Cucumbers cut into rounds for eyes/ or cold compresses
2.) Prepare your hair
Fasten a headband or towel around your head to protect your hair. You may also want to wear a robe or other comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting wet or dropping product on.
3.) Analyze
To do this you need to remove all make up and take a good, close up look at your skin. Would you say your oily, dry, or acne prone? For oily you will not do as much massaging, for dry you will do more massaging and for acne prone you will do little to no massage. This will be explained more in that section. You will also need the correct products for your skin type. If you are not sure it is best to use products that are for all skin types.
4.) Cleansing
Soften Cleansing cream between fingers. Starting at the neck use both hands in a sweeping movement to spread the cleansing product upward on the chin, jaws, cheeks, base of nose to temples, and along the sides and the bridge of the nose. After covering the entire face, In small circular motions, move your fingers along the chin, jaws, cheeks, base of nose, to the temples again. By doing this you are increasing circulation.
6.) Steam
Take out one of the steaming hot towels you had prepared earlier. Place it over your face and sit for 5 minutes. This opens your pores so they can be cleansed of oil, blackheads, makeup, and other debris. It also helps soften superficial lines and increases blood circulation to the surface of the skin.
7.) Massage
In circular motions manipulate your skin with your fingers to increase blood circulation. Massage in any way that feels good. Do this for 3-5 minutes.
9.) Tone
Apply astringent/toner with cotton rounds
10.) (Optional) MASK
Apply mask all over face, Apply cucumber to eyes (the cold cucumber will bring down swollen, puffy eyes, and the aroma is good for relaxation) Allow Mask to dry and sit for aprox. 15 min
11.) Remove
Take out second steaming hot towel and place on face to soften mask. Then take towel and gently wipe off remaining mask.
