Many people are troubled by the texture and appearance of their skin, which may be flawed and uneven due to reasons such acne, aging, and varied types of scarring.
Both Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion are procedures performed by either dermatologists, who are physicians specializing in skin care, or plastic surgeons. Both techniques are quite effective but certain methods are more suitable for specific maladies.
Dermabrasion is the more invasive of the two. It is a method of altering and improving the appearance by planning, or sanding, if you will, the top layer. The skin to be treated is frozen before the procedure is implemented.
A tool with a rotary motor and stiff brush are then worked over the damaged surface. The tool’s abrasiveness removes the unsightly portion and as healing occurs, new, smoother non-damaged layer replaces it.
Microdermabrasion is less invasive and is more of a “power peel”, as it is alternately referred to. Very small crystals are sprayed on the upper layer in sort of a softer mini-sandblasting technique.
Dermabrasion is the choice for more deeply affected areas, such as tattoo removal, severe acne scars, pronounced wrinkling of skin. It is not as effective on scars resulting from burns or birthmarks. Microdermabrasion is the preferred method for less serious issues, such as faint wrinkles and mild acne scarring or age spots.
The recovery time from a Dermabrasion treatment is approximately seven to fourteen days, which is substantially longer than the recovery period from Microdermabrasion, which is often only around twenty-four hours. There are fewer risks with Microdermabrasion, as well, since the procedure is so much less invasive and doesn’t require anesthesia.
After either procedure, a patient is advised to stay out of the sun and protect their newly healing the surface. In the case of Dermabrasion, this is especially true, since the surface was taken down to a lower level than its micro-version.
It is recommended, in fact, to avoid sun exposure for three to six months and at that time to use a sunscreen for sensitive one with the highest SPF you can find. It is also important to use adequate moisturizers and to drink plenty of water. The drinking of water is an integral part of every person’s body care regime, one that has a huge impact on your healing and overall optimum health.
But underdoing all these treatments does not guarantee a problem free or a gorgeous skin if you don’t put the required effort to maintain the results. Follow up the treatment with a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet. And don’t forget to follow the 3 steps regularly for a youthful skin-cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
