It has been estimated that over 50 million people in the United States alone suffer from pimples. Most teens and many adults are looking for a remedy for acne. The reality is that there is effective acne treatment which produces the desired result. The problem for many people is that they make mistakes which cost them dearly. Find out more about the major ones and how to avoid them.
1. Popping Pimples
This is the undoubtedly the top acne treatment mistake that virtually each and every one of us has made at least once. Popping a pimple is only going to make the situation worse.
Inflammatory pimples called papules appear because the wall of the affected pore has become ruptured and the mixture of sebum and bacteria inside it has affected the adjacent skin tissue. The body sends white blood cells to the area to fix the problem and, as a result, it becomes inflamed and bumpy. If you pop the zit, the rupture in the wall of the pore will become even bigger due to the pressure exercised on it. As a result, the inflammation will worsen. The zit will heal more slowly and the risk of permanent scarring will be higher.
It is certainly difficult to avoid look at the pimple when you see it and feel it on your face, but you will have to use your willpower to refrain from popping it. You can try to cover it with thin powder but not with foundation or a similar liquid product as it may make the problem worse.
2. Too Much Skin Scrubbing
It is important for you to use cleansing products such as face wash, lotion and mask as part of your acne treatment. However, it is a mistake to scrub the skin too much. The scrubbing can cause further damage to the affected area, slow down the healing process and increase the risk of scarring.
You should be extra careful when cleaning your skin irrespective of the type of remedy for acne that you are using. Use gentle circular massaging movements to wash your face. Rinse your face with cool water and dry it with a dry soft towel.
3. Using the Wrong Product
There are so many products for acne treatment that it is easy for a person to go for the wrong one. That is why it is important to know which ones to avoid. It has been found that the lotions and washing products containing alcohol can make the problem worse. The same applies to alkaline soaps.
You need to avoid products which can clog the pores as well. Oils can cause clogging and so can ingredients like decyl oleate, butyl stearate and isopropyl palmitate. No matter whether you are buying sunscreen or skin hydrating cream, you should confirm that non-comedogenic.
Now your acne treatment will certainly be more effective.
