Chemical peels have caught on the trend from beauty enthusiasts and other people form the fashion and beauty industry quite well. This is an office-based procedure where, the dermatologist usually performs this. The procedure is simple in itself and can be performed by any professional dermatologist. The standard procedure is quite easy to follow and it usually involves cleaning the face and covering the eyes with an ointment, and other eye coverings before the doctor can start the procedure. You can also protect your hair using some form of covering before you start procedures on your skin.
Although pain relief is not something that is required with any kind of light chemical peel, this can become necessity in the case of medium to deep chemical peel. In fact, it is highly recommended to use a sedative or other kind of painkiller to keep the pain at bay. Thus, it is usually the case that when a patient goes through deep chemical peel, the dermatologist will probably numb the skin with a local anesthetic to save them from the pain during the therapy.
There are three main types of chemical peels. Many things are different when it comes to administering the different kinds of chemical peels on dermatology clients.
During the procedure for implementing a light chemical peel, the dermatologist usually uses a dab to sponge a light chemical solution of glycolic acid and salicylic acid. This helps the treated skin whiten a bit. Although this may have a stingy feeling to it, the procedure in itself is not at all painful. Thus, little or no anesthetic is used. The doctor will wash of the solution previously applied by a neutralizing solution.
A doctor will again use a cotton applicator and gauze to apply a chemical solution. This chemical is a different combination of trichloroacetic acid and glycolic acid. The combination can be effectively used for curing many different skin conditions. After the application of this solution, the doctor will apply cool compresses to soothe the skin. These will not only help you soothe your skin, but also make it easier for you to bear the stingy touches. A hand-held fan or icepacks can also feel extremely comfortable to the patient’s skin. This kind of treatment does not require any neutralizing solution. The stinging effect of the solution lasts for about 20 minutes and then retards.
Deep chemical peels are the most effective of all the chemical peels. Experienced dermatologists only conduct these procedures. At the start of the procedure, patients are administered intravenous fluids and their heart rate is closely monitored. The procedure is similar to the medium and light chemical peels, but the solution used in these procedures are usually phenols. The skin usually turns the color of gray or white after the treatment has been administered. This procedure can take up to 2 hours to complete and consists of a full facial procedure.
